Markt and Burg No break in Bruges is complete without a visit to its famous old squares. The Markt and the Burg are Bruges' two main medieval squares, around which lay the older parts of the city.

An impressive and charming area, the Markt is the city's main square and commercial centre, surrounded by cafés and bars set in old gabled buildings. The 13th century Belfry tower rises majestically from the south side of the square.

Displaying over 900 years of architecture, Bruges' civic centre the Burg is considered the historical centre of the city. Here, amongst the stately civic buildings, you can find the Basilica of the Holy Blood.
