Orlando: The Haven City For Tourists

Orlando: The Haven City For Tourists

by Mark Whichard

Did you ever sit down with your family to plan your next vacation and then realize that you just couldn't find that special somewhere where the parents and the kids, and perhaps another relative or 2, could all find something interesting to do?

And on top of that, maybe you've been to all the interesting places within your travel budget anyway? Well then you probably haven't been to Orlando, Florida. Otherwise you'd realize that even Orlando 'V-V's' (Vacation Veterans) can always find something to see and do in Orlando that they didn't do the last time they were here, or even the time before that.

I've long wondered what it is about Orlando that draws so many people to this, the sixth largest city in Florida. Well, a city of less than 200,000 people that draws about 52,000,000 (yes, Million!) tourists a year must be doing something right.

It's almost an understatement to say that the good people of the city want to give you the chance to see and do something new and fun (or even something old and fun, because many of the city's attractions do bear repeated visits).

This attitude, and the countless opportunities for the fun-loving and health-loving and education-loving visitor, is one reason that Orlando is called 'the amusement capital of the world', as well as 'the city beautiful'.

Step by step I'll take you through a lot of the city's tourist attractions (not the least of which are the fine accommodations for visitors, from hotel rooms to fully equipped apartments). In this article I'll start with some of the more famous attractions, since these are what many people are initially interested in. Not that you're unfamiliar with Disney World. We may safely label it as the world's favorite children's theme park.

This grand creation has 4 different theme parks full of shows, rides and other attractions. As well it provides plenty of shopping and eating opportunities for those who may be 'themed' out for awhile.

The first park is Magic Kingdom, Disney's first theme park. Second is Animal Kingdom Park, combining an animal experience with classic rides, attractions and shows. Epcot Park takes you into the future, cleverly combining fun and learning. The MGM Studios contains among many other things, a tower of terror which is pleasant looking from outside but may, once you're inside, frighten your heart out.

Another famous tourist haven in Orlando is Universal Orlando Resort, which has five theme parks, including the Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Florida, Wet 'n Wild Water Park, Sea World, and Busch Gardens. Add to this the dining, nightlife and shopping venues and you may just find the ideal place for at least one full vacation. The resort also contains the Universal Studios where you can enjoy the ride while watching movies. If you have a budding Hollywood star in your brood they can learn how movies are made and the secrets behind some movie effects. Within this resort each theme park stands alone.

Perhaps two of them at this resort are most famous One is The Islands of Adventure, which certainly live up to their name, with wild rides and roller coasters in this quite new park in Orlando. There is also Sea World, a well known aquatic park, which offers breath-taking rides as well as animal shows where you can see smart animals doing their amazing stunts.

We are just scratching the surface of this amazing town. We'll follow up with more on Orlando in future articles and I won't be surprised if you write me sometime to say you've planned several vacations there for the near future.

New German Tourists Fly Into Malta

New German Tourists Fly Into Malta

by Roger Munns

Malta has enjoyed a revival in the number of British people visiting the Mediterranean holiday island since low cost flights were introduced last year.

Hotel and holiday bookings have been up for the first time in a number of years, and Malta's traditional market has rediscovered the island as a holiday destination.

Malta has always been a likely spot for the British, with nearly all Maltese speaking fluent English - and like the British the Maltese drive on the left.

Malta used to be governed by the British, until 1964 when Malta became independent.

But outside of the UK holiday market, Malta hasn't enjoyed the same levels of visitors from other European countries such as Italy and Germany, compared to her competitor Spanish islands of Mallorca and Tenerife.

But that is now set to change, with a further boost for the Malta holiday and hotel markets, vital to the island's economy.

A low cost airline in Germany, Germanwings, started flights from Germany to Malta in late March, and with good bookings is looking to increase the number of flights to the island.

Commenting on the expansion plans, the airline said recently that it was very happy with its Malta route, and that the peak summer months were looking particularly good.

At the moment the flights to Malta are from Stuttgart and Cologne, and they would like to start flying from Hamburg in the autumn. Whether this will be allowed to happen though is problematic as Air Malta already serves the Hamburg route.

If flying from Hamburg to Malta doesn't prove possible, the airline hopes that it will be able to increase the frequency of the routes it already has.

As well as boosting the Malta holidays and hotel market, the arrival of increased numbers of tourists from Germany could also impact the Malta property market.

Property inflation in Malta has been high in recent years, with joining the EU a factor, and joining the Euro currency another.

The majority of sales in the past to overseas property buyers have been to the UK and Irish markets. But if German tourism rises it's possible that this will add presuure to property prices again if the German tourists decide they like Malta enough to invest in a villa or holiday apartment.

As with most popular holiday destinations, a percentage of tourists decide to buy a property in an area they like, and Malta is no exception.

The advantage Malta has for UK and Irish visitors is that they drive on the same side of the road and English is spoken, and for non British Isles visitors Malta has well known language schools where they can learn English.

A 2 bedroom apartment in the popular Malta holiday resort of Qawra is currently on the market for LM 72,000, and a three bedroom two bathroom apartment in equally popular Mellieha for LM 138,000 negotiable.

The Malaga Hotel Guide for Tourists

The Malaga Hotel Guide for Tourists

by Jerry Blackburn

Whatever type of accommodations you need for business or leisure travel to Malaga, Spain, there is a Malaga hotel that can take care of all your needs. Accommodations can be categorized by hotel, resort, apartment or condominium, hostel, bed & breakfast, or conference centre. While the hotels are most plentiful, there are these other types of arrangements to give you more options.

Hotels in Malaga

There are dozens of hotels in Malaga ranging in size and price. The average hotel will cost about $100 US or less, so even the four and five star rated hotels are quite reasonable. For a nicer, high rise hotel in the centre of the city, you could choose from the AC Malaga Palacio Hotel or Los Naranjos Hotel, each with all the amenities and services of any large chain. Other hotels rated highly by visitors include the Novetel Malaga or the Hotel Adriano.

Luxury Spas and Resorts

You can enjoy the beautiful weather, golf or just a relaxing holiday at any number of spas and resorts in and around Malaga. Some favourites of tourists include the Parador Malaga Golf and the Sunset Beach Club. The Gran Hotel Benahavis in Malaga features swimming and a fitness centre and costs between $100-$250 US per night. If you prefer an International chain, there is the Radisson sas el marques resort and spa.

Apartment Living

Apartments offer affordable housing for extended vacations or just the convenience of having a kitchen and other comforts of home. An option with apartments or condominiums is that you could just lease for your vacation or buy timeshares so that you can return year after year. Apartments generally do not rent by the night, unless you are willing to pay a short-stay surcharge. Usually owners like to book the apartment for at least one week as a minimum stay.

Money Saving Hostels

Hostels are not just starving students on break. They offer an entirely different way to spend your holiday. At a hostel you will get to know travellers from around the world, even if you do give up a bit of luxury in the process. Some options in Malaga include the Residencia Universitaria Santa Paula or the Picasso's Corner Backpackers Hostel. These will cost you under $30 per night. At the hostels, you will generally have access to a shared kitchen and common room, but a private sleeping area. Linens may or may not be included, but there is usually a place to do laundry and lock up valuables if need be. Some require advance reservations of at least 24 hours, while others allow for drop in. Be sure to check if yours has a curfew or you may find yourself locked out after returning from dancing or the bar!

Romantic Bed and Breakfasts Bed and Breakfasts are a little different in Malaga and the surrounding areas than you might find in New England in the U.S. This description could be applied to hotels having as many as 150 rooms, but because a continental breakfast is included it earns that name. These hotels are more like hotels than the quaint inns furnished with antiques. However, they still have plenty of European charm and personal service.

Full-Service Conference Centres

Conference centres provide all of the business services needed to run a successful business meeting along with comfortable rooms and amenities. These tend to be higher on the price range scale but no expense is spared in service or upgrades. For example, the Avda Rio de Guadalmedina in Malaga is a four-star hotel with rooms ranging in the $220-$300 US per night range. It is new and modern and is close to all of the good restaurants and sights. You can just as the concierge for directions or to make your dinner reservations for you.

As you can easily see, choosing a Malaga hotel offers many different options at various prices. To decide which is right for your holiday, the only real question may be do you want to be closer to the golf course or the shopping plaza?

Top 5 Recommended City Hotels Around The World

Top 5 Recommended City Hotels Around The World

by E Cho

Although many individuals may have different wants and needs when it comes to a vacation or holiday, there is one type of holiday that suits everyone. The city holiday can be tailored to suit any individual. The nature of any city is such that it has to provide a wide range of activities in order to attract tourism and continues to bloom. Cities often thrive on the capital that tourists bring to it when they visit, and thus only catering for one niche market can result in degradation of the economy and its overall attractiveness.

Some cities offer more than others as far as catering for the majority is concerned and hotels are no different. Whether you are looking for luxury, a quiet place to relax or a location that gives you access to all the facilities and entertainment you could ever want, the hotels below have it all.

1. Champerret Elysees Hotel, Paris - Accessibility to this hotel is excellent. It has a central location with easy access to the Palais des Congres, the Champs Elysees and the Eiffel Tower. The hotel itself is comfortable, with a touch of the classic French style to give you a taste of the culture and heritage of Paris, but this is also complimented by the modern facilities that everybody expects from a top class hotel. The restaurant is superb and the bar is carefully furnished. What attracts most tourists is the easy access to the rest of the city with transportation links available right outside the hotel.

2. Best Western Academy Hotel, Dublin - Located in the heart of the city of Dublin, this hotel blends the contemporary facilities expected of every modern day hotel with a good helping of old fashioned hospitality and values. The service offered by the hotel is second to none because the staff will go out of their way to help you. The restaurant within the hotel offers excellent cuisine that is delicious and affordable, and the location itself could not be better as it is within walking distance of all of Dublin's notable attractions.

3. Ronda Lesseps Hotel, Barcelona - This is a small hotel with just 35 rooms. That fact alone allows a personal hotel experience that is hard to find anywhere else. All guests are well taken care of with all of their needs and demands efficiently met by the friendly staff. You automatically feel like one of the family. The facilities are all modern and up to date, with the restaurant providing a comfortable ambience to enjoy the Spanish cuisine. The metro system provides easy access to the rest of the city with the hotel being a nice base to explore it from.

4. Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore - This is the only hotel located on the beach in Singapore, which makes it special in itself. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous because you can choose a room that overlooks the South China Sea. If that is not enough, the hotel has its own spa facilities to help you relax, which are free to use if you are a guest. The gym, Jacuzzi and outdoor swimming pool are also available. Every room has ensuite and satellite TV, but if you are not content to sit in your room all day then there are transport links available to the city centre.

5. Rendezvous Hotel, Melbourne - This hotel definitely looks the part as it is an old but beautiful listed heritage building. It amazingly has five different grades of room so you can choose one to fit your needs and budget. The service is impeccable, regardless of whether you choose a luxury or basic room, and makes your stay memorable. The facilities are comprehensive, with a cocktail bar, restaurant and room service all available to every guest. It is just a stones throw from the hotel to the city centre, with the gorgeous Yarra River in between.

City hotels can provide the highest quality of service around because of the strength of the competition. There are many hotels usually located within a mile radius so great service is a must. However, all of the hotels listed above offer a little bit more to make your stay of the highest quality, so sit back and enjoy it while it lasts!
