Orlando International Fringe Festival 2011

Lovers of art, theater, and dance can get their Fringe on for the next 12 days during the Orlando International Fringe Festival on May 18 – 30, 2011. Once again, this year’s Fringe is held in Loch Haven Park, just north of downtown Orlando, at Princeton St. and Mills Ave. The shows are in various theaters at The Lowndes Shakespeare Center, The Orlando REP, and even a few “Bring Your Own Venue” (BYOV) shows.

And since some of the themes of the performances might be a little adult-oriented (such as BEE: The Musical) there is an entire Kids Fringe series of performances and exhibits to inspire young people to get more involved in the arts. From story tellers to the Blue Man Group, performances, exhibits and activities for Kids Fringe are held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Saturdays and Sundays of the Fringe Festival under the Kids Fringe Tent on The Green in Loch Haven Park.

Like other Fringe festivals, the Orlando Fringe offers 100% unjuried, 100% uncensored, 100% accessible theatre, music, dance, art and madness to all types and ages where 100% of the box office ticket sales go directly back to the artists within The Fringe. Initiated in 1992, the Orlando Fringe is the longest running Fringe festival in the United States; the festival’s name is derived from the original Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1947, where artists performed “on the fringes” of mainstream venues.
